Our Story

From a personal acts of charity and mercy to an organization that touches the lives of many

From charity to empowerment

Lydia Furaha is a Kenyan businesswoman in Nairobi with a passion for helping the less fortunate. She started her mission of mercy by providing basic needs (food, clothing) to society’s vulnerable (the orphaned, the widowed and the homeless) in Nairobi’s informal settlements and her rural home in Kitale.

For slightly over a decade, Lydia’s initiatives were initially supported by a network of family, friends and supporters. In that duration, she picked up data and analysis on the afflictions and challenges facing the less fortunate in society. As the numbers of vulnerable individuals rise and humanitarian intervention shifts to market-based and cash-based transfers models, there is a growing number of vulnerable individuals who miss out on the basics and fall through the cracks of social safety nets.

There is dire need to assist vulnerable individuals and families with basic needs (those that are omitted from the government’s social safety nets) before they can be uplifted through training and empowerment. That, simply put, is Love4Mercy’s mission.
